Markings on Bridal Ring Set
Markings on Bridal Ring Set: Question: I was wondering if you could tell me what the markings on the inside of a bridal ring set I purchased at a pawn shop might be?
“14K 2 PAT. Art Lock”.

Thank you for your time.
Answer: G’day Debbie and many thanks for your query
First I would like to say “Well Done” for buying gold jewelry TAX FREE - and at a discount price. There are so many Bargains out there in Antique Dealers, Auction houses, Second-hand dealers and Pawn Brokers. Just gotta love that!
But there can a downside…
Your Hallmarks at 14K are ok as that just signifies 14 Karat gold but the rest appears to be simply engraved marks added by the previous owner. The ‘2 PAT’ is short for ‘To Pat’ and the name ‘Art Lock’ from someone named ‘Arthur Lock’.
Now I could be wrong - but that (after 35 years in the jewelry Valuation industry) is how I would interpret it without any other information being made available.
Depending on the THICKNESS of the stamped engraving, you may be able to get it polished out or some jewelers may be able to fill it with gold solder for you.
On the other hand - who cares? Gold is gold and you obviously liked the rings or you wouldn’t have bought them. Makes a great talking point too.
Hope this helps. Best just wear them and enjoy them the way they were meant to be enjoyed.
If you liked that, then try these...
